Banchory Academy Outdoor Learning Programme
As part of Leys Estate’s commitment to educating the future through engaging with a wide range of community groups and businesses, representatives from the estate attended a garden party at Banchory Academy’s new garden space.
The space has been developed by the school to provide an outdoor learning space for pupils across the school. The area has developed to include two sheltered learning spaces, vegetable patches, composting areas and numerous bird boxes, squirrel boxes and insect hotels which have been created by the students.
As part of the project, Leys Estate provided the school with willow from its crop on the estate to provide shelter to the area. The children have also used the willow to start creating small fences to section off the new vegetable plot.
The estate is looking forward to following the progress of the garden project and providing students with the opportunity to explore the land and wildlife of the estate as part of the project.
