2019 Fishing Season
It’s has been a fantastic start to the 2019 fishing season.
At the end of January, the sporting department attended the River Dee Dinner which raises money for the many projects which aim to increase the number of salmon in the River Dee.
Special guest on the night, former rugby union player Rob Wainwright, welcomed guests to the dinner before casting the first line on the River Dee the next day. Traditionally toasting the river by spilling in some whisky must have brought Leys Estate some good luck as the following Monday the first fish of 2019 on the Dee was caught at Crathes Castle.
Well done to Graeme who caught the 10lb fish. Crathes Castle fishings stretch for 2 1/2 miles of the left bank, immediately below Banchory.
The fishings are normally let for 4 rods and are divided into 2 beats each with 4 major pools. There is a maximum of 2 rods on each beat and the rods will change beats at 1.00pm. All the pools are accessible by car and there has been a newly built hut which has electricity, a solid fuel stove, microwave and a barbecue and this can be used by all guests throughout the day.
