Inchmarlo Golf Centre, on the edge of Banchory, welcomed the first golfers back to its course and driving range on the first morning of operation on 29^th May after the first phase relaxation of Government lockdown restrictions, which saw people eager to enjoy one of the first sports to be open for business following the Coronavirus outbreak in Scotland.

PGA Professional at Inchmarlo Golf Centre, Steven Moir, said: “When we closed the doors in March we had to furlough the majority of our team. However, our greenkeeper continued to work tirelessly throughout ensuring that our 9-hole Queen’s Course and driving range was in prime condition and ready to go as soon as we got the green light to reopen.

“We worked hard in the run up, taking guidance from the PGA, various golfing bodies including Scottish Golf and the Scottish Government, to ensure our members and visitors could return to golf with the confidence that their health and safety was our number one priority.

“From the first tee time we had a steady stream of bookings and, while we were keen to ensure members were given priority to get back on course, we also realised that many non-members were also desperate to get back out on the fairways. We are passionate about golf and see ourselves as playing an important role in grass roots golf in the north-east, so it was important to us that the centre welcomed non-members from day one, where availability allowed.”

The centre’s driving range has proved popular and, with every second bay closed, visitors can be confident that they will have the space they needed to practice while adhering to social distancing measures.

Steven added: “Although it is undoubtedly a challenging time for the industry there is also some positivity with golfers returning to the course after time away and youngsters and families making the most of golf being one of the first sports to come out of lockdown. I firmly believe that this will have  long-term benefits for golf, increasing participation and growing the game.

“We are constantly reviewing the latest advice from Scottish Golf and the Scottish Government and adapting our operations as appropriate. For example, in the coming weeks we will be able to reintroduce lessons for members and reopen our short play practice area.

“The health and safety of everyone who visits Inchmarlo Golf Centre is our number one priority. We have been really encouraged by how golfers have responded to the new measures in place and we are delighted to welcome familiar faces, as well as new members back to the fairways at Inchmarlo.”
