Torphins Scouts Learn About The Work Of Leys Estate
As part of the Leys Estate’s commitment to educating future generations and engaging with local community groups, estate gamekeepers Craig Henshaw and Hamish Allan recently welcomed members of the 1st Torphins Scouts to Meikle Maldron farm near Torphins to find out about life on a working country estate.
During the evening, Craig and Hamish spoke to the children about the many aspects of working on an estate, from the importance of conservation work, to how the land is managed. The children were encouraged to be hands on and ask any questions.
The highlight of the night came when Craig and Hamish showed the children how rabbits were traditionally prepared for cooking, giving the scouts the chance to try if for themselves.
Feedback from the evening was extremely positive with the scouts enjoying the opportunity to find out more about the work carried out every day on the land around them. Some scouts even encouraging their families to try rabbit for the first time at home following the evening.
The Leys Estate is committed to ensuring future generations have access to, and awareness of the countryside around them.
